I was young, in college and stuck in a terribly verbally and physically abusive relationship. When I found out I was pregnant, I knew that my home was barely safe enough for me so it certainly was no place to raise a child. I don’t think I even needed much time to make the decision, not because it wasn’t hard, gut-wrenching or important, but because I had no other choice. I wanted children, I just wanted to give them a safe and wonderful home and I knew that at that point in time I just couldn’t.
